Details
With the release of Oracle Solaris 11.4 on 24 September 2018 the support for a number of legacy SPARC & AMD systems systems[1] will be removed. This means such systems cannot be updated to Oracle Solaris 11.4.
In order to provide customers running Oracle Solaris 11 on these legacy systems an opportunity to transition, Oracle will continue to supply, on a quarterly basis, a minimal set of critical security and availability fixes for Solaris 11.3 for a limited period of time (but for at a minimum of one year) past the release of Solaris 11.4. These fixes will be delivered as updates to the last Support Repository Update delivered for Solaris 11.3 and will be made available through My Oracle Support and not the Solaris Support Repository.
As with previous updates to Solaris 11, we expect the vast majority of customers who are running Oracle Solaris on more recent systems to maintain their Oracle Solaris 11.3 systems via updates to Solaris 11.4 and subsequent SRUs, which will continue to release monthly delivering a regular progression of security, availability and feature enhancements.
This article applies specifically to the following systems:
- SPARC Enterprise M3000, M4000, M5000, M8000, and M9000 systems that use SPARC64 VI, VII, or VII+ CPUs.
- Platforms based on UltraSPARC T1 CPUs - Sun Fire T1000 and T2000, Sun SPARC Enterprise T1000 and T2000, Netra CP3060, Netra T2000, and Sun Blade T6300
- Platforms based on UltraSPARC T2 CPUs - Sun SPARC Enterprise T5120 and T5220, Sun Blade T6230, Netra CP3260, and Netra T5220
- Platforms based on UltraSPARC T2+ CPUs: Sun SPARC Enterprise T5140, T5240 and T5440, Sun Blade T6340, Sun Netra T6340, and Netra T5440
- Platforms based on SPARC T3 CPUs: SPARC T3-1, T3-1B, T3-2 and T3-4, Netra SPARC T3-1, and Netra SPARC T3-1BA
- Sun Java Workstation models: W1100z, W2100z
- Sun Ultra Workstation models: 20, 20 M2, 40, 40 M2
- Sun Fire server models: V20z, V40z, X2100, X2100 M2, X2200 M2, X4100, X4100 M2, X4140, X4200, X4200 M2, X4240, X4440, X4540, X4600, X4600 M2, X4640
- Sun Blade server modules: X6220, X6240, X6440, X8400, X8420, X8440
- Netra X4200 M2
The x86 based models may successfully update to Oracle Solaris 11.4, however, they may face odd failures due to drivers for those machines being retired.

Actions
Users of the affected platforms will need to take two actions when Oracle Solaris 11.4 is released:
1. Configure a local Oracle Solaris repository to install the MOS delivered updates (so that client systems can be updated).
2. Be prepared to update the systems to the last released Support Repository Update (SRU) for Oracle Solaris 11.3 in order to be able to apply the MOS delivered updates to that last SRU for Oracle Solaris 11.3.
Solaris 11.3 SRUs and LSRUs are available for download from Oracle Solaris 11.3 Support Repository Updates (SRU) Index (Doc ID 2045311.1)
3. Note that the following IPS pkg can be installed to keep system at v11.3: release/constraint/solaris-11.3
